 279. HARRY IRWIN⁷ GRUBB (JOHN FRANKLIN⁶, DAVID⁵, DAVID⁴, DAVID³, GEORGE², HEINRICH¹) (#22230) was born in E. Cov. Twp. Chester Co. PA 03 January 1874. HARRY died 03 December 1930 at age 56.

       He married JENNIE SUSANNA REINHARD 06 July 1895. (JENNIE SUSANNA REINHARD is #22231.) JENNIE was born 06 January 1875. JENNIE died 07 April 1917 in E. Cov. Twp. Chester Co. PA, at age 42.

       HARRY GRUBB is shown farming in the East Coventry census in 1900 with his wife JENNIE SUSANNA REINHARD and their 2 daughters MAMIE and MINERVA. JOHN F. GRUBB age 57 was living with them at the time. This was HARRY's widowed father JOHN FRANKLIN GRUBB. Census Roll 1392 Book 2 Page 75a.

       On the 5 April 1917, HARRY GRUBB'S wife JENNIE SUSANNA REINHARD died and he filed a petition in connection with her estate. The heirs were himself and 3 daughters, MAMIE, married to Mr. Detwiler. MINERVA and DOROTHY. The total value of her personal property was $1,947.00 but these papers don't say how it was divided.

       At this date HARRY I. GRUBB was living at Pottstown, R.F.D. # 3 The Administration File is #35966 and is held by the Chester County Archives in West Chester, Pa.

       He was farming in East Coventry Township on the Pughtown Road in 1920. Two of his daughters were living with him. MINERVA and DOROTHY. Chester County 1920 census Roll 1549 Book 2 page 286.

       By 1930 he was still living on the Pughtown Road in East Coventry with his daughter MINERVA and he was farming on 75 acres. Chester County Cenus Roll 2019 Book 2 Page 12. However in that same year on 3 December 1930 he died Intestate. MINERVA and his other living daughter MARY GRUBB DETWILER, administered the estate. The farm, personal property and some bank accounts totalled $18,877.96 but by the time debts and expenes were deducted the net estate was valued at $16,161,42.

       The Administration file is #43,948 and is held by the Chester County Register of Wills in West Chester, Pa.

                            MINERVA E. GRUBB was living at home with her father at the time of his death on 3 December 1930. Her mother had died many years before in 1917.

                 iv.  DOROTHY I. (#22233) was born in E. Coventry Twp. Chester Co. PA 06 February 1902. DOROTHY died 13 April 1922 in E. Coventry Twp. Chester Co. PA, at age 20.

 280. DAVID EDGAR⁷ GRUBB (JOHN FRANKLIN⁶, DAVID⁵, DAVID⁴, DAVID³, GEORGE², HEINRICH¹) (#22228) was born in E. Coventry Twp. Chester Co. PA 21 December 1876. DAVID died 14 February 1923 in E. Coventry Twp. Chester Co. PA, at age 46.

       He married CLARA VIRGINIA FAIRHELLER 1901. (CLARA VIRGINIA FAIRHELLER is #22229.) CLARA was born 1879. CLARA died 02 November 1956 in Spring City, Chester Co. Pa., at age 77.

       CLARA VIRGINIA FAIRHELLER, widow of DAVID EDGAR GRUBB was living on Spring Street in Royersford, Montgomery County, Pa. at the time of the 1930 census. Her two daughters, ETHEL, age 24, EDNA, age 21 and her youngest son CLYDE FAIRHELLER GRUBB, age 14, were living with her. She was working as a clerk in a needle manufacturing plant. Roll 2084 Book 1 Page 81.

       On 2 November 1956 CLARA V. FAIRHELLER, widow of DAVID EDGAR GRUBB, died Intestate. She died at the Crowder (?) Nursing Home but I don't know whether this is in Royersford or Spring City. Three of her living children administered the estate. There was a life insurance policy for $1,262.60. Her house on Cedar Street in Spring City was valued at $8,500. Debts and expenses amounted to #1,354.50 and the residue was divided between the 3 children and 3 grandchildren.

       The Estate file is #59,483 and is held by the Chester County Registesr of Wills in West Chester, Pa.

       DAVID EDGAR GRUBB is shown in the 1900 East Coventry census boarding with the William Dattre (?) family. It is Roll 1392 Book 2 Page 79b.

       By the1910 East Coventry census he had married CLARA VIRGINIA FAIRHELLER and they have 3 children. Although I have no proof in the way of a deed, I believe this farm is the same property which once belonged to his grandfather and g-g-grandfather whose names were also DAVID. If this assumption is correct then the land was located on Kulp Road north of Eberhare Road in the area of Pigeon Creek. Chester County 1910 census Roll 1327 Book 2 Page 231.

       He was still farming in East Coventry Township in 1920. With him are his wife CLARA and 4 children, CHARLES F., age 17, ETHEL M., age 14, EDNA A., age 19 and CLYDE F., age 3 and a half. Chester County 1920 census Roll 1549 Book 2 Page 288.

       DAVID EDGAR GRUBB died at his farm in East Coventry Township, Chester County, Pennsylvania, on 14 February 1923. His Will is found in Chester County Archives at West Chester under Estate File #39202. It is from Chester County Will Book 45 page 122. The will was signed on 29 March 1922 and probated on 3 March 1927.

       DAVID left an extensive estate to his widow CLARA VIRGINIA FAIRHELLER and their four children, CHARLES F., ETHEL MAY, EDNA ALBERT and CLYDE F. GRUBB, It amounted to $11,749.53 of personal property plus the farm of 120 acres which was valued at $7000.00. The widow could carry on the farming as long as she saw fit and then it was to be divided between the children, The will does not specify the exact location of the farm.

       These detailed inventories showed exactly what the farm possessions were and they give a glimpse into owner's lives. But the wording of the wills also showed how the person cared for the other members of the family.

 282. RUDOLPH STAUFFER⁷ GRUBB (ENOS FRANKLIN⁶, CHARLES⁵, DAVID⁴, DAVID³, GEORGE², HEINRICH¹) (#22245) was born in Spring City, Chester Co. Pa. 13 February 1881. RUDOLPH died 22 March 1955 in E. Pikeland Twp. Chester Co. P, at age 74.

       He married MARY E. KULP 1903. (MARY E. KULP is #22246.) MARY was born 02 May 1886. RUDOLPH GRUBB and his wife MARY KULP were members of the Spring City Methodist Church.

       RUDOLPH R. GRUBB was farming in East Pikeland Township, Chester County, Pa. in 1930. With him were his wife, MARY E. KULP, and 4 children WILLIAM K., MARION A., ESTHER M. and ENOS K. GRUBB. Chester County 1930 census Roll 2019 Book 2 Page 73.

       The farm was 115 acres located on the road leading from Spring City to East Pikeland Township. RUDOLPH made his will on 17 February 1955, just a month before he died on 22 March 1955. He left the interest in all the farm and dairy equipment to his son ENOS, but not the property itself. He left $1,000 to each of his 4 children, WILLIAM K, MARION A. married to an Unknown Yost, ESTHER M. and ENOS K. GRUBB. All the balance of the estate went to his wife MARY E. KULP. His wife MARY and son WILLIAM GRUBB were designated as Executors. The estate was valued at $34,782.50 including the real estate but $3,362.47 had to be deducted for debts and expenses.

        RUDOLPH STAUFFER GRUBB and MARY E. KULP had the following children:

                            HELEN A. WILLIAMS GRUBB, wife of WILLIAM KULP GRUBB, was a widow who had originally been married to WALTER JOSEPH WILLIAMS. At the time of her death she had been living at 141 Holly House, Meadowood, Lansdale, Worcester Township, Montgomery County, Pa. WILLIAM K. GRUBB had been living at the same retirement home but his address was 157 Laurel House.

                            In her will HELEN left $2,000 to her sister DOROTHY CARTY and $5,000 to the United Church in Christ in Trappe, Montgomery County, Pa. The rest of her estate which amounted to approximately $25,000 was divided among the children from her first husband.

                            In 1930 at age 20 WILLIAM K. GRUBB was living with his father and mother in East Pikeland Township, Chester County, Pa. He is an apprentice at a machine shop. The farm where they were living was 115 acres on the road that led from Spring City to East Pikeland Township.

                            When his father died on 22 March 1955, WILLIAM KULP GRUBB was living in Spring City, Chester County, Pa. He inherited $1,000 from his father's Will.

                            In 1993 he was living in a retirement community at 157 Laurel House, Meadowood, Lansdale, Worcester Township, Montgomery County, Pa. This is shown in the Estate file for HELEN A GRUBB #46-93-3510. She was a widow who had been married to WALTER JOSEPH WILLIAMS who was deceased. Her address at time of death was 141 Holly House, Meadowood, Lansdale, Worcester Township, Monrgomery County, Pa. So I am assuming they were both living at the same retirement home and married after HELEN's first husband died. There were a number of children from her first marriage who received legacies from her will.

       ELMER KING GRUBB had a guardian appointed by the Orphan's Court. The Security Company of Pottstown was appointed to administer his estate until he became of age. He received on 22 December 1915, a total of $1,373.88 which was a combination of an inheritance from his aunt Annie King and his mother Ada King.

       ELMER KING GRUBB was living in Stowe, Montgomery County, Pa. at the time of the death of his father on 30 November 1931.

       His mother had predeceased his father so there were just the 4 children to share the estate equally. ELMER's share was $5,482.88 which he received on 14 November 1932.

       He was living in West Pottsgrove Township, Montgomery County, Pa. by 1930 as he is shown in the census living with his wife SARA and son EDWARD. He was a stationary engineer at the water works

       .He made his Will on 29 March 1946 with the witnesses being Paul S. Yokum and Frederick G. Erb. He left his entire estate to his son EDWARD W. GRUBB. There is no mention of his wife SARA or other children. It is possible his wife predeceased him. His estate amounted to $12,631,28 but by the time debts, expenses and Estate Taxes were deducted the net estate was $9,769.76. This all went to the son EDWARD W. GRUBB.

He was a Baptist. He served in the Army. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lola M.        During the second World War Oletha was employed in the Quartermaster Corps of the United States Army. She worked as a Handler in the Quartermaster Service San Antonio Repair Sub-Depot Repair Branch. She was making .74 cents per hour. Due to reduction in force her last day of active duty was July 17, 1946. While in the Quartermaster Service Oletha was given a Certificate of Award. "This certificate is evidence of the acceptance of a "Victory Suggestion" from Oletha H. Grubb and carries with it the thanks of the Commanding General, Eighth Service Command, and indirectly the thanks of every loyal American". The award was dated January 30, 1945.        0letha was also a Group Supervisor during the Fifth War Bond Drive. Have documentation from the United States Government.  

       Oletha worked some time for Dr. Sheffler a dentist in Nordheim, Texas. During her later years she was a care giver for the elderly until she retired. She owned her home in Yorktown and lived by herself until she fell and broke her hip in November 1996 and then she lived with her daughter Dolores Grubb Nesloney. In 2000 Oletha went to live at the Twin Pines Nursing and Rehab Center, Victoria, Texas.  

       She loved her great grand children Ashley Nicole, Cody Wes and Rachel Amanda Nesloney and Travis Austin Nesloney who was born in [Birth Date Confidential]. In Oletha's younger years she liked to paint and her daughter Manona has two of her paintings. When she retired she loved to work in her garden and enjoy her beautiful flowers.

       John Vance was a Barber by trade and in January 1962 he died in an auto accident in Refugio County, Texas. He was buried in Oakwood Cemetery, Refugio County, Texas. Was found on the 1900 Missouri, Lafayette County, Clay township, census - age 7 years old. He was also known as J. V. and Vance. John was a popular name in the Grubb ancestry, as early as the second generation there were sons named John.  

       There is a mystery with John Vance Grubb. On the birth certificates of two of his children with his first wife Ida Mae Brown his name is listed as Prince Aaron Lafette Lopez on his sons birth certificate and on his daughter Frances his name is listed as Aaron Lafayette Lopez. Also this information was given to my sister by his first wife Ida Mae Brown. Ida lived to be 100 years old and died in 2000. I could not find a marriage certificate of a divorce decree in Texas for Ida Mae Brown and a Prince Aaron Lafette Lopez. I have contacted quite a few counties surrounding the county in which I was told they were married.

       The 1930 census shows MAX G. GRUBB and family living on the Sumneytown to Harleysville Road in Franconia Township, Montgomery County, Pa. He owned and operated an auto garage and is an auto mechanic by trade. He later owned and operated the Grubb Store in Telford.

       HUBERT made his Will on 27 January 1953 but did not die until 31 January 1955. He bequeathed his entire estate to his wife SEVILLA YOST FRYER. In case she predeceased him the estate was to be divided equally among their 3 children, RUTH F., married to James Roberts, HUBERT J. and WOODROW F. GRUBB.

       JOSHUA MARVIN GRUBB attended school at Mock's School located on the Little Road in Upper Frederick Township, Montgomery County, Pa. In 1906 he was in a class which included 5 other Grubb children. The teacher was Miss Latta Yeakle. There is a photo of this class on page 63 in The History of Upper Frederick Township, published in 1975. I have a copy of this book in my library.

       JOSHUA MARVIN GRUBB was living on Doits Street in Pennsburg, Pa. in 1930. He was an auto mechanic working in a garage. Census Roll 2084 Book 1 Page 28.

       He received a legacy of $1,619.44 from the estate of his father who died 23 February 1934. This is shown in Orphan's Court file #42,455 which is held by Montgomery County Archives in Norristown, Pa.

       By 1970 when he died he styled himself as MARVIN G. GRUBB in his Will. He had been living on South Main Street in Red Hill, Montgomery County, Pa. However he actually died in Milford Township, Bucks County, Pa. He may have been in a nursing home or hospital there. He had made his Will on 18 February 1966 when he was living in Upper Hanover Township, Montgomery County, Pa. His wife SAVILLA must have predeceased him as there is no mention of her in the Will. Also there is no mention of any real estate. The estate is mainly made up of 2 bank accounts. The checking account of $1,251.50 is with the Industrial Valley Bank and Trust Co.. The savings account of $18,161.70 is with the Red Hill Savings and Loan Association. By the time expenses and debts were paid, it left a net estate of $15,706.28. This was to be shared equally between the 2 sons, R. LEON GRUBB of Red Hill and J. LEWIS GRUBB of Pennside, Pa.

 305. LEROY GRESH⁷ GRUBB (JOHN E.⁶, JOSHUA⁵, HENRY SCHETLER⁴, HEINRICH CHRISTMAN³, JOHN², HEINRICH¹) (#26346) was born in Frederick Twp, Montgomery Co. Pa. November 1899. LEROY died date unknown in Pennsburg, U. Hanover Twp. Pa., at age unknown.

       He married LYDIA A. LONG 1922. (LYDIA A. LONG is #26358.) LYDIA was born 1902 in Lower Frederick Twp. Montgomery Co. LYDIA was the daughter of EDWIN LONG and LYDIA THOMAS. LYDIA died 12 July 1989 in Pennsburg, U. Hanover Twp. Pa., at age 87.

       LEROY GRESH GRUBB attended school at Mock's School located on the Little Road in Upper Frederick Township, Montgomery County, Pa. In 1906 he was in a class which included 5 other Grubb children. Most of these were his brother and sisters. The teacher was Miss Latta Yeakle. There is a photo of this class on page 63 in The History of Upper Frederick Township, published in 1975. I have a copy of this book in my library.

       LEROY GRUBB received a legacy of $1,619.44 from the estate of his father who died 23 February 1934. This is shown in Orphan's Court file #42,455 which is held by Montgomery County Archives in Norristown, Pa.

       The 1930 census shows LEROY living on the Sumneytown to Lower Salford Road in Marlborough Township with his wife LYDIA LONG and one son Paul age 7. He was an auto mechanic at a garage and this is probably the garage owned by MAX G. GRUBB in Sumneytown who is his older brother. Roll 2083 Book 1 Page 132.

       LEROY GRUBB died Intestate on 22 December 1961. His actual death occurred at the Grandview Hospital in Sellersville, Bucks County, Pa. His widow LYDIA A. LONG was appointed Administrix of the estate which amounted to $920.77. It shows her living in Red Hill, Montgomery County, Pa at the time.

       HARVEY H. GRUBB hand wrote his Will on 24 November 1958 but this date must be in error as the subsequent Court petition said he died on 7 September 1958. There is no mention of his wife so she must have predeceased him. He appointed his son, WILLIAM S. GRUBB as Executor. He bequeathed $200 to Mrs. Mena Sweisford, a friend, and $500 to his daughter, ELLEN GRUBB, married to an Unknown Kuser. Any residue in the estate went to his son, WILLIAM S. GRUBB and he received any property which he could keep or dispose of as he saw fit.

       This property was situated in Collegeville, Douglas Township. Montgomery County, Pa. It was appraised at $5,500 but his whole estate including investments totalled $7,668.62 after expenses were deducted.. His death actually occurred in the Pottstown Hospital.

                            At the time of his death WILLIAM S. GRUBB was living at 220 Bartman Avenue in Gilbertsville, Douglas Township, Montgomery County, Pa. His actual death occurred in the Pottstown Memorial Medical Centre in Pottstown, Pa. He was 81 at the time of his death.

                            He had made his will on 30 August 1994 and his wife GRACE GERY must have predeceased him as there is no mention of her in the Will. Also they must not have had any children. He left his large estate to his sister ELLEN GRUBB KUSER. If she predeceased him the estate was to go to his niece GRACE HANLON. Presumably she was the married daughter of his sister. He appointed his friends Carl H. Kirschner and his wife GRACE as Executors of the estate.

                            The estate was appraised at $167,528.48 includung the house in Gilbertsville which was valued at $43,000. The expenses and debts amounted to $28,630.13 and the Inheritance Estate Tax was $20,834.76. So the net inheritance going to his sister ELLEN GRUBB KUSER was $118,063,59.

       ELAINE BERGEY BENNER, widow of MARVIN S. GRUBB, died in the Souderton Mennonite HOMES , 207 West Summit Street, Souderton, Pa. on 4 December 1990 at the age of 90 years. She had made her will on 2 December 1985 directing that her estate should be divided into 3 equal shares. Each of her 3 children were to receive one share. These were sons HAROLD B. GRUBB and RICHARD B. GRUBB and daughter MARIE G. GRUBB, married to ALLEN MOYER.

       Her estate was very extensive amounting to $170,816.17. By the time expenses, debts and Inheritance Taxes were paid the net estate was $137,604.71 which the 2 living children and one granddaughter shared equally. The granddaughter was PATRICIA GRUBB, daughter of the deceased HAROLD B. GRUBB and married to Wesley Landis

       WILLIAM MARVIN S. GRUBB was living in Franconia, Pa. at the time of his father's death on 10 October 1949. He received $729.10 from his father's estate.

       In 1930 MARVIN was working as a shipping clerk for a clothing factory in Souderton, Franconia Township, Montgomery County, Pa. Shown in 1930 census Roll 2084 Book 1 Page 170.

       He died Intestate on 28 December 1958 and his wife ELAINE BERGEY BENNER was appointed Executrix of the estate. There was vey little in the estate. Most of it was in a 1956 Chevrolet car valued at $1,500 and a 1955 Pontiac valued at $950. The total value of the estate was $2.630.60. By the time the widow deducted her Widow's Exemption and the expenses and Estate Taxes of 2% were paid, it left an estate to be divided of $496.40. Of this the widow would receive one third as her dower rights and the balance would be equally divided among the 3 children. These were HAROLD J.GRUBB, MARIE A. GRUBB, married to Allen Moyer and RICHARD B. GRUBB.

       When we later see the Will left by his widow ELAINE BERGEY BENNER it would appear that MARVIN S. GRUBB probably had a much larger estate than what is shown in his own Will. He probably had transferred a large amount of money to his wife's name to avoid Inheritance Tax.

       He married twice. He married RAE DELLA B. date unknown. (RAE DELLA B. is #26476.) RAE was born [Birth Date Confidential]. RAE died 02 May 1963 in Telford, Montgomery Co. Pa., USA, at age 56.

       RAE DELLA B. GRUBB was the second wife of WAYNE S. GRUBB. His first wife EVA OTT had died in 1937. They had a daughter CATHARINE RAE GRUBB. RAE DELLA GRUBB made her Will on 29 June 1950 which was probably just after her own daughter was born. She didn't die until [Birth Date Confidential] and probably was incapacitated at that time as she died in the Lutheran Home in Telford, Franconia Township, Montgomery County, Pa.

       In her Will she bequeathed her cedar chest and her maple desk and chair to her own daughter CATHARINE RAE GRUBB. She left all the rest of her estate to her husband WAYNE S. GRUBB for his lifetime or until he should remarry. In either of these cases her estate was to be divided equally among her daughter CATHARINE RAE GRUBB and her two step-daughters ELIZABETH JEAN and DORIS MAY GRUBB.

       She must have brought some investments of her own to her marriage to WAYNE S. GRUBB. Her estate was valued at $10,541.75. After expenses and Estate Taxes were deducted the final amount left for distribution was $6,624.21.

       When EVA OTT, wife of WAYNE GRUBB died Intestate on 17 December 1937, a legacy from her father HARVEY OTT, had not been settled. It was a one fifth interest in property on Union Street in Hatfield, Montgomery County, Pa. It amounted to $619.50 and presumably her husband received this.

       In the 1920 census for Souderton, Franconia Township, Montgomery County, Pa. it shows WAYNE GRUBB boarding with the Henry Halteman family. Roll 1605 Book 1 page 22.

       WAYNE S. GRUBB was living in Harleysville, Montgomery County, Pa. at the time of his father's death on 10 October 1949. He received $729.10 when the estate was divided between himself, his brother WILLIAM MARVIN S. GRUBB and his sister ALICE GRUBB.

       At the time of his own death on 2 July 1966, WAYNE S. GRUBB was living at 43 West Maple Avenue in Harleysville, Lower Salford Township, Montgomery County, Pa. He had made his Will on 30 July 1963 shortly after the death of his second wife. He had a rather strange clause in this Will. His daughter ELIZABETH JEAN, by his first wife could use or take away any furniture she chose as long as she continued living in the house with his daughter CATHARINE RAE, by his seconf wife. However if she moved out this clause was nullified.

       All the balance of the estate was put into a trust fund for the support and educatin of his daughter CATHARINE RAE GRUBB. If she predeceased him then the estate was to be divided into 3 shares. One share was to go to daughter DORIS MAY GRUBB, married to an Unknown English. The other two shares were to go to daughter ELIZABETH JEAN GRUBB.

       Another rather strange clause appointed the Church Council of the Christ Lutheran Church of Towamencin as guardian of CATHARINE RAE GRUBB. They had the power to decide where she should live but preferably in a private residence. The Executors appointed were Elizabeth Jean Grubb, Charles W. Heckler and Gerald K Heckler.

       The real estate on Maple Avenue in Harleysville was appraised at $13,600 and could be sold at the discretion of the Executors. Adding on the investments, the total estate came to $36,561.80. The total expenses were $6,103.05 and Estate Tax was $609.18. So the net estate for distribution was $29,849.57.

                            CHARLES SNELL GRUBB's residence at the time of his death was 605 N. Evans Street, Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pa. although he actually died in the Memorial Hospital in Pottstown. He had made his Will many years before, on 23 April 1954. It is a very long and complicated Will but unfortunately in spite of all the detail, he doesn't actually name his children.

                            He left all of his estate to his wife MARGARET E. provided she survived him. If not the Citizens National Bank and Trust Co. of Pottstown was to act as Executor of his Will. In that case they were to set up a separate trust fund for each of his children. This was to provide enough money for their eduction through High School and University. They would receive the principal of the trust fund when they reached 21 years of age. There is a long page of granted instructions to the Executors as to what they could or could not do.

                            If his wife and all the children predeceased him then the entire estate was to be divided equally between his brother SAMUEL SNELL GRUBB, and his two sisters, CATHARINE MAY GRUBB, married to Morrell Grigg and ANNA GRUBB, married to James .F. Baird.

                            The total estate amounted to $25,959.65 after expenses, and Estate Tax, were paid. The Will is #101,607 found in Montgomery County Will Reel 223 page 397 proved 25 February 1966. It is held by the Montgomery County Archives in Norristown, Pa.

       JONATHON LINWOOD GRUBB was living at 326 Cricket Ave., North Hills, Abington Township, Montgomery County, Pa. at the time of his death on 8 December 1953. He had written his Will on 4 March 1927 and it was very straightforward and simple. Perhaps a little too simple as he does not name specific children but only "my lawful issue". This is protection for children who arrive after his Will has been made and means his will does not have to be updated. However it is not of much assistance to genealogists trying to trace the family.

       JONATHON bequeathed his whole estate to his wife LAURA S. WEIL and also made her Executrix of the estate. If she predeceased him, the estate was to be divided equally between his "lawful issue". It was probated on 6 February 1954. They must have been renting the house as there is no mention of real estate in the probate. There were some investment shares amounting to $3,953 and a 1953 Oldsmobile valued at $2,500 so the total estate came to $6,453. By the time expenses and Estate Tax was deducted the residue was $4,323.10 which was distributed to the widow.

                            His Will which was written on 16 January 1954 is similar to his father's Will in that it does not mention children by name. He bequeathed his entire estate to his wife BIRDELL KAUFMAN. If she predeceased him the estate was to be divided equally among "any children now born or hereafter born".

                            Because of the partnership interest in the business, the estate amounted to $40,962.37. However because of the high medical expenses he suffered before his death, the final valuation was $27,696.29.

He and his wife MARY EVANS CHRISTMAN lived on Merion Avenue with their son THOMAS CHRISTMAN GRUBB and MARY's mother ELEANOR CHRISTMAN, a widow. Montgomery County 1910 census Roll 1378 Book 2 Page 5.

       WALLACE B. GRUBB was living in Philadelphia, Pa. at the time of his father's death on 31 December 1923. He received a legacy of $627.63.

 328. DANIEL WEBSTER⁷ GRUBB (NATHANIEL JACOB⁶, SILAS⁵, JACOB⁴, DAVID³, ABRAHAM², HEINRICH¹) (#22183) was born in Frederick Twp, Montgomery Co. Pa. 06 January 1882.

       He married ANNA ELIZABETH MEARNS 30 January 1907 in Philadelphia, Pa. USA. (ANNA ELIZABETH MEARNS is #22184.) ANNA was born 15 September 1881.

       DANIEL WEBSTER GRUBB is shown in the 1900 Philadelphia census boarding with a family that took in lodgers. He is a grocery clerk and probably got the idea of going to Philadelphia as his uncle Bishop Nathaniel B. Grubb had been appointed to the Mennonite Church there a few years earlier.

       On 30 January 1907 he married ANNA ELIZABETH MEARNS and their first child was born the following year and named DANIEL R. GRUBB. DANIEL, the father, is shown in the 1910 census as being both a clerk and a salesman and they were living on West Mount Airy Avenue. Roll 1396 Book 2 Page 28.

       By 1921 they were living at 7131 Bryn Street in Mount Airy, a northern suburb of Philadelphia. At that time he is shown in the Administration papers for his mother's estate in selling some property in Limerick Township, Montgomery County, Pa.

 329. GEORGE WALLACE⁷ GRUBB (NATHANIEL JACOB⁶, SILAS⁵, JACOB⁴, DAVID³, ABRAHAM², HEINRICH¹) (#22185) was born in Frederick Twp, Montgomery Co. Pa. 19 November 1884.

       He married ELIZABETH H. STEUBER 26 June 1912. (ELIZABETH H. STEUBER is #22186.) ELIZABETH was born 01 October 1889. ELIZABETH died 09 December 1961 Perkiomen Twp, Montgomery Co. Pa., at age 72.

       ELIZABETH B. GRUBB, widow of GEORGE WALLACE GRUBB, was also known as LIZZIE HARBERLE GRUBB. I don't know the reason for this unless her mother's maiden name was Harberle. There is also another mystery involved here. I have a book called History of Upper Frederick Township, in which there is a photo of EARL GRUBB SR. It states he started his butcher business in Perkiomenville about 1900. ELIZABETH's son, EARL H. GRUBB wasn't born until 1905 according to his Will. So could EARL GRUBB SR. be the first husband of ELIZABETH and the father of EARL H. GRUBB ? It seems very likely as they were both in the butcher business in Perkiomenville. If so it accounts for the birth date of EARL H. GRUBB in 1905 and the marriage date of ELIZABETH to GEORGE WALLACE GRUBB in 1912.

       Another complication has arisen. In the 1930 census for West Nantmeal Township, Chester County, it shows EARL H. GRUBB married to RUTH E. and with 5 children. This is only 15 or 20 miles from Perkiomensville. He was born in 1891 and is living on State Road Route 82. It doesn't show his occupation. Could he be the EARL GRUBB SR. shown in the book mentioned above ? If so the starting date for his business of approximately 1900 would be considerably off as this EARL GRUBB was only 9 years old in 1900.

       ELIZABETH B. GRUBB made her Will on 1 June 1954. It was hand written and it is interesting to note that she says she had made a Will previously but someone had lost it. She bequeathed $50 each to the 6 grandchildren of her 2 daughters, ELSIE, married to an Unknown Yerger, and SADIE, married to an Unknown Heller. After that is done her estate was to be divided into three shares and distributed equally among those 2 daughters and her son EARL H. GRUBB and he is appointed as Executor. Her real estate in Upper Frederick Township was appraised at $6,500 and personal property at $370. By the time expenses were deducted and the legacies given to the grandchildren, the residue was about $4,500 so the 3 children would receive about $1,500 each.

       The Will is file #92,836 on Reel 177 page 555 and proven 26 February 1962. It is held by the Montgomery County Archives in Norristown, Pa.

        GEORGE WALLACE GRUBB and ELIZABETH H. STEUBER had the following children:

                      EARL died 24 September 1979 in Perkiomenville, Montgomery Co. Pa., at age 74. He married ESTELLA E. HENDRICKS date unknown. (ESTELLA E. HENDRICKS is #26472.) ESTELLA was born 1901 in Marlborough Twp. Montgomery Co. P. ESTELLA was the daughter of CHARLES M. HENDRICKS and ELIZABETH REITER. ESTELLA died 21 February 1990 in Perkiomenville, Montgomery Co. Pa., at age 88.

                            ESTELLA E. HENDRICKS, widow of EARL H GRUBB, made her Will on 4 February 1981 but her actual death wasn't until 16 February 1990. Her Will is interesting because her husband's will had made a number of legacies which could not be fulfilled because when they settled his estate it was found to be insolvent. But in ESTELLA's will there is a large estate and she made the exact bequests that EARL had made in his Will. So I believe what happened was that EARL turned over the bulk of his estate to his wife before he died to avoid Inheritance Taxes.

                            ESTELLA's estate amounted to $140,052.32 By the time expenses, debts and Inheritance Taxes were deducted the net estate was valued at $116,664.97. Then her bequests were exactly the same as her husband had made in his Will which were as follows. $1,000 to the Good Sheperd Home in Allentown, Pa. $500 to Frieden's United Church of Christ in Sumneyton, Pa. $500 to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Hill, Pa. $200 to the Union Cemetery Association in Sumneytown, Pa. $100 to the St. Paul's Church Cemetery Association in Red Hill, Pa.

                            Also all the residue of the estate was to be divided equally among 9 nephews and nieces. These were Harold G. Yerger, son of EARL's sister ELSIE married to an Unknown Yerger. Franklin G. Heller, Shirley H. Landes, Richard G. Heller, Janet H. Goodwin, Lynda H. Faust. These last five were all children of EARL's sister SADIE married to an Unknown Heller. Naomi W. Segan, Grace W. Romeike and John C. Hendricks. These last three must be relatives of ESTELLA.

                            The Estate file is #46-90-772 and is held by the Montgomery County Archives in Norristown, Pa.

                            In 1930 EARL H. GRUBB was a butcher in Upper Frederick Township, Montgomery County, Pa. Census Roll 2085 Book 1 Page 49. He lived on the Perkiomenville Road R.D.1 which would make it near the village of Perkiomenville. In the book titled History of Upper Frederick Township there is s photo on page 83 showing EARL H. GRUBB delivering meat along Route 29. A copy of this book is in my library.

                            However there may be some mixup in the parents I show for EARL H. GRUBB. I think it is correct because I have the Will for his mother, ELIZABETH H. STEUBER. She names her two daughters and son EARL H. GRUBB. But in the book mentioned above there is another photo on page 83 showing EARL GRUBB SR. with the caption "he began his butcher business about 1900 in Perkiomenville." EARL H. GRUBB, married to ESTELLA HENDRICKS, was not born until 1905 according to his Will so they can't be the same person.

                            I have found an EARL H. GRUBB in 1930 living on State Road Route 82 in West Nantmeal Township, Chester County, Pa. who was born in 1891 and married RUTH E. in 1917. So this can't be the father of the first EARL H. GRUBB. To confuse matters even worse this older EARL H. GRUBB had a child named EARL K. GRUBB who was born in [Birth Date Confidential]. He also had 4 other children by 1930. This will take some serious sorting out.

                            EARL H. GRUBB was living in Perkiomenville, Montgomery County, Pa. at the time of his mother's death on 9 December 1961 in Perkiomenville, Pa. After the legacies to the grandchildren were paid, he received one third of the residue of the estate which amounted to about $1,500.

                            He made his will on 9 November 1970 but his actual death wasn'r until 24 September 1979. He left his entire estate to his wife ESTELLA. E. as long as she survived him for 30 days. If not he made the following bequests. $1,000 to the Good Shepherd Home in Allentown, Pa. $500 to Frieden's United Church of Christ in Sumneyton, Pa. $500 to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Hill, Pa. $200 to the Union Cemetery Association in Sumneytown, Pa. $100 to the St. Paul's Church Cemetery Association in Red Hill, Pa.

                            Also if his wife predeceased him any residue left after the above was distributed was to be divided equally among 9 nephews and nieces. These were Harold G. Yerger, son of his sister ELSIE married to an Unknown Yerger. Franklin G. Heller, Shirley H. Landes, Richard G. Heller, Janet H. Goodwin, Lynda H. Faust. These were all children of his sister SADIE married to an Unknown Heller. Naomi w. Segan, Grace W. Romeike and John C. Hendricks. These last three must be relatives of his wife.

                            Unfortunately all of the above plans came to naught as he was declared insolvent. He owned a wood lot worth #3,500 and some shares in the Bonnell Run Hunting and Fishing Corporation worth $1600 so his total assets were $5,100. The funeral and other expenses plus the $2,000 family exemption totalled $5,252,75 so there was nothing left to distribute to the heirs.

                            However something mysterious happened here because his widow ESTELLA E. HENDRICKS made a Will on 4 February 1981 a little more than a year after Earl had died. She repeated all the bequests made in her husband's Will. She didn't die until 16 February 1990 and her estate is huge, amounting to $140,052.32. I believe what happened was EARL turned over nearly his whole estate to his wife ESTELLA before he died to avoid inheritance taxes. They must have had an understanding that she would make all the same legacies that he had made in his own Will.

       She married EARL C. LUDWIG 10 November 1909. (EARL C. LUDWIG is #22375.) EARL was born 24 May 1886. EARL was the son of JEROME B. LUDWIG and SALOME E..

        MARY LIZZIE JOHNSON and EARL C. LUDWIG had the following children:

 332. MARY LIZZIE⁷ HALTEMAN (CATHARINE BERTOLET⁶ GRUBB, SILAS⁵, JACOB⁴, DAVID³, ABRAHAM², HEINRICH¹) (#22384) was born 20 January 1891.

       She married AMMON C. LUDWIG date unknown. (AMMON C. LUDWIG is #22385.)

        MARY LIZZIE HALTEMAN and AMMON C. LUDWIG had the following child:

 333. IRWIN NORMAN⁷ GRUBB (IRWIN B.⁶, EZRA⁵, JACOB⁴, DAVID³, ABRAHAM², HEINRICH¹) (#22198) was born in Limerick Twp, Montgomery Co. Pa. 31 December 1882. IRWIN died 21 April 1979 in Pottstown, Montgomery Co., Pa., at age 96.

       He married ALVERDA NEIFFER ROTH 1904. (ALVERDA NEIFFER ROTH is #22199.) ALVERDA was born 1888. ALVERDA was the daughter of P. ROTH and CLARISSA NEIFFER.

       IRWIN NORMAN GRUBB received $200 as a legacy from his father's Will. This was on top of writing off his loan from his father of $1,316.

       The 1930 census for Limerick Township, Montgomery County, Pa. shows IRWIN and his wife ALVEDA ROTH with their 4 children, CORDELIA, 22, EDGAR, 19, CLARISSA, 14 and RUTH 10. At that time IRWIN was a Deputy Sherrif. Roll 2082 Book 1 Page 104.

       Before his death, he and his family lived at 350 Ridge Pike in Limerick Township, Montgomery County, Pa. He owned the house at this address as well as 4 acres of woods near Frederick.

       He made his Will on 4 June 1973 but his death wasn't until 21 April 1979 at age 92. In his Will he bequeathed his estate in equal shares to his wife, ALVERDA NEIFFER ROTH, and his 4 children, CORDELIA, married to Forrester Livermore, EDGAR B., CLARISSA, married to an Unknown Pengally and RUTH, married to an Unknown Sedmak. He appointed his son, EDGAR B. GRUBB as Executor.

       The estate was valued at $95,248.49 including $42.500 value for the house and property on Ridge Pike. So the inheritance tax charged was $5,035.94. At this time the house had not actually been sold as the sale had been delayed because of the lawyer's actions on behalf of the mother. When this was cleared up the actual sale at auction only brought $35,000 so EDGAR B. GRUBB, the son and Executor filed a petition with the Court on 1 February 1982, asking for an adjustment on the Estate Tax in view of the lower sale price on the house. This was subsequently denied because of the late filing.

       After expenses and Estate Tax the estate was valued at $78,896.40. In the final dispersement, the widow, ALVERDA GRUBB received one third of the estate as her widow's dower rights. Note this differs from the instructions in the Will which designated she would get one fifth which would be equal to the shares of each of the 4 children. ALVERDA also received $2000 as Family Exemption. This meant the 4 children received one sixth each as their share which amounted to $13,148.40.

       The Will is # 46-79-1238 and is held by the Montgomery County Archives in Norristown, Pa.

        IRWIN NORMAN GRUBB and ALVERDA NEIFFER ROTH had the following children:

                   i.  CORDELIA⁸ (#22273) was born in Neiffer, Montgomery Co. Pa. [Birth Date Confidential]. CORDELIA died 02 February 1993 in West Chester, Chester Co. Pa., at age 84. Her body was interred after 02 February 1993 in Keeler's Cem., Frederick Twp. Mont. Co.. She married W. FORRESTER LIVERMORE date unknown. (W. FORRESTER LIVERMORE is #22274.) W. died before 1978 at age unknown.

                            CORDELIA was a music teacher when she was 22 and still lived with her parents in 1930 in Limerick Township. Roll 2082 Book 1 Page 104.

                            CORDELIA GRUBB, widow of Forrester Livermore, was living with her mother at 350 Ridge Road, Limerick Township, Montgomery County, Pa. at the time of her father's death on 21 April 1979. She was evidently ailing at the time and later was taken to the hosptal but didn't die until 2 February 1993.

                            CORDELIA received one sixth of her father's estate which after expenses and estate tax amounted to $13,148.40.

                  ii.  EDGAR B. (#22200) was born in Neiffer, Montgomery Co. Pa. [Birth Date Confidential]. He married MARION F. date unknown. (MARION F. is #26533.) MARION died 03 April 1989 in Frederick Twp, Montgomery Co. Pa., at age unknown.

                            MARION F. GRUBB, wife of EDGAR B. GRUBB made her will on 24 December 1968 but did not die until 3 April 1989. It is not clear where she actually died but it may have been at the Perkiomen Valley Retirement Centre in Schwenksville, Frederick Township, Montgomery County, Pa. That is where her husband EDGAR B. GRUBB was living at the time. We don't know her maiden name.

                            Her estate was considerable, amounting to $129,810.25. She left the entire estate in a trust fund and her husband EDGAR B. GRUBB. would receive the interest on this fund for his lifetime as long as he did not remarry. They do not appear to have had any children as any residue from the trust fund was to be shared among 4 nieces and nephews. I don't know the relationship of these children but they were as follows. DEBORAH BROOKS, 5630 Sara Drive, Terrance, California. MARY HELENE FURMAN, 500 Payne Drive, Miami Springs, Florida, WALTER A. FURMAN JR., 10 Lorne Road, Turnersville, New Jersey, and ARTHUR R. BENCE, 42 Charlton Street, New York, NY.

                            EDGAR B. GRUBB petitioned the Court through his lawyer Albert B. Wrigley, to have the Administrators of the estate changed from The Continental Bank and Trust Company to The Harleysville National Bank and Trust Company. This petition was granted.

                            The Estate file is #89-1617 and is held by the Montgomery County Archives in Norristown, Pa.

                            EDGAR B, GRUBB was living at 33 Walker Drive in Boyerton, Montgomery County, Pa. at the time of his father's death on 21 April 1979.

                            He received one sixth of his father's estate which after expenses and estate tax amounted to $13,148.40. He also received $2,575 as an Executors's commission.

                 iii.  CLARISSA R. (#22275) was born in Neiffer, Montgomery Co. Pa. [Birth Date Confidential]. She married UNKNOWN PENGELLY date unknown. (UNKNOWN PENGELLY is #22276.)

                            CLARISSA GRUBB and her husband, an Unknown Pengally, were living at Pruss Hill, Road 3, Pottstown, Pa. at the time of her father's death on 21 April 1979.

                            RUTH GRUBB and her husband, an Unknown Sedmark, were living at 6 Terminal Avenue, Philadelphia, Pa. at the time of her father's death on 21 April 1979.

       She married HARVEY SABOLD date unknown. (HARVEY SABOLD is #22203.)

       IRENE GRUBB, married to HARVEY SABOLD, received $1,316.01 as a legacy from her father's Will. She also received antique dishes valued at $1,282.84.

       She married DANIEL HARRISON KULP II 18 May 1913 in Pottstown, Montgomery Co., Pa.. (DANIEL HARRISON KULP II is #22981.) DANIEL was born 03 September 1888 Pennsylvania, USA. DANIEL was the son of JOHN KRAUSS KULP and HANNAH BOSORA KEYSER. DANIEL died 09 July 1980 in Seattle, King Co. Washington, at age 91.

       In September 1919 HELEN GRUBB WANGER was living at 242 Oak Street in Pottstown, Montgomery Co. Pa. At this time HELEN GRUBB WANGER received a legacy from her grandmother Kate Lubold Pennypacker who had died in June 1919. See Montgomery County Administration Papers #34031.

       She married GEORGE NORRELL HARWARD 08 August 1917 in Pottstown, Montgomery Co., Pa.. (GEORGE NORRELL HARWARD is #23157.) GEORGE was born 04 January 1886 in Chatham Co, N. Carolina, USA.        MIDDLEMISS, Norma Ilean - At the Greater Niagara General Hospital, Niagara Falls on Sunday, Oct. 19, 1997, Norma Middlemiss (nee Culp) of Beamsville, aged 80 years. Wife of the late Keith (1974) and mother of Pat (Darlene) of St Catharines, Angus (Julie) of Stoney Creek and Don (Jackie) of Stevensville. Also survived by eight grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Reta McCombs (1991) and Jean Culp (1992) Mrs. Middlemiss is at the TALLMAN FUNERAL HOME, 4998 King St., Beamsville where the family will receive friends on Tuesday 204, 7-9.        Obituary of NELLIE VANKEUREN widow of JOHN FRANCIS DASHWOOD

       Mrs. Frank Dashwood, life long resident of Dunnville, passed away suddenly at the HaLdimand War Memorial Hospital on Manday October 4, 1965 at the age of 77 years. She was confined to the hospital only two days. Mrs. Dashwood was formerly Nellie Vankeuren, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Melyin Vankeuren and was born in Dunnville Township Sept. 28, 1888. On April 14, 1909, she was married in Dunnville to Frank Dashwood and resided at 109 Main St., most of her life. Mr. Dashwood predeceased her June 20, Mrs. Dashwood was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and particularly devoted to the work of missions in connection with her church. She was a past president of the Women's Association of the church, a communion Life Member of the Women's Baptist Missionary Society and actively engaged in this work until the time of her death. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Arthur Gibbs (Mildred) of Dunnville, Mrs. Arnold Glemey (Helen) of Harnilton, and Mrs. Dana Lamb (Edna) of Windsor . surviving also are seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Dunnville, Ont.

            FRANK DASHWOOD was a machinist in Dunnville, Ont, The shop had been run by his father, Daniel Dashwood. He did a great deal of work for the gas drilling outfits in the area. He invented the Dashwood Gas Regulator. He also had a Tourist Camp and gas station on the Grand River for many years. This was later taken over by his son-in-law Arthur Gibbs and the house that Frank and Nellie lived in was moved up to this property, where Art and Mildred Gibbs lived and raised their family.

       Obituary of JOHN FRANCIS DASHWOOD

       The death occurred in the Haldimand War Memorial Hospital, Dunnville, on Tuesday morning June 20, 1961, of Frank Dashwood in his 76th year. The deceased, born in Dunneville on December 14 1885, was the son of the late Daniel and Margaret Dashwood. While quite young, Mr. Dashwood became an apprentice machinist in his father's machine shop and later formed a partnership with his father and brother Curtis, when the firm became known as D. Dashwood and Sons. In 1927, he purchased this business, which has operated in the same family since 1871. It is presently the oldest business in Dunnville.

       Mr. Dashwood was a perfectionist and highly skilled mechanic who loved his trade. His invention, the Dashwood Gas Regulator is well known throughout Southern Ontario. Frank Dashwood was a boating enthusiast as was his father before him. He was a charter member and Past Commodore of the Dunnville Boat Club. For many years Mr. Dashwood raced his own boats, winning many trophies, but in his later years he turned over his driver's seat to his grandson, Bob Glenney.

       On April 14, 1909, Frank Dashwood was married to Nellie Vankeuren, also of the same town, who survives him, together with three daughters, (Mildred) Mrs. Arthur Gibbs (Edna) Mrs. Rev. Lamb of Windsor; (Helen) Mrs. Arnold Glenney, of Hamilton; two sisters Beatrice of Dunnville, Mrs. Vic Thompson of El Cajon, Calif., One brother, william of Lancasre, New Brunswick and seven grandchildren. Interment in Dunnville Riverside Cemetery.
